Something is moving in Vigo

As some of you may know, a little over a year ago Félix Gómez and I created the PHPVigo developer community. The goal, through monthly events, is to meet other developers, share knowledge through talks, and primarily build a community—a community that, united, can demonstrate that from Vigo, from Galicia, there are people and companies developing projects and technologies that have nothing to envy from other parts of the world, as recently happened with Rubén González, who, while preparing a talk for PHPVigo, discovered how to reduce composer’s memory usage by up to 30%.

Of course, **PHPVigo **is not the first community in Vigo; long before came Python Vigo, GDG Vigo, Vigo Labs and surely some others I’m leaving out.

The best part of all is that although they might seem like disconnected communities dealing with different programming languages or technologies, it’s quite the opposite; a great symbiosis has emerged between these communities and in the last 6 months a multitude of new communities have appeared: Javascript Vigo, Agile Vigo, VigoJUG, SysAdminGalicia, etc. (forgive me if I’m leaving any out, which I surely am) which, from my point of view, is nothing more than proof that Vigo is moving, is eager to do things, and very cool things at that.

For me personally, it is a source of pride and a pleasure to promote one of these communities, and also for my fellow designer **Pedro Figueras ** to collaborate in every way possible, such as by providing the visual identity of PHPVigo

I hope and wish that the traction these communities are gaining continues and bears more fruit, which it certainly will.
