Goodbye pulpoCon

Goodbye pulpoCon

The third edition of #pulpoCon has just finished, and it won’t be the last, but it will be the last one in which I participate as an organizer.

It has been 3 intense editions in which the conference has grown in terms of attendees, sponsors, speakers, etc. And this doesn’t come for free; it requires an effort and dedication that I can no longer maintain. I’ve always believed that if you do something, you do it well or you don’t do it at all.

For this reason, and although with no small amount of sadness, I have decided to step down as an organizer of #pulpoCon. But don’t worry, the conference will continue, and it will keep growing, and it will remain one of the best software development conferences in Spain, the benchmark #gastroTech event.

I cannot and will not stop giving my most sincere thanks to Rolando Caldas for allowing me to share these years within the organization with him and for all the work he does to make the conference a success. Without a doubt, he is the architect behind everything working, and without his work and effort, the conference would not move forward.

Also to each and every person who makes this possible: to all the speakers, many of them friends, whom I have “roped in” to give a talk or workshop (sometimes even two); to the sponsors, because they make it possible for the conference to exist and maintain its high level; to the attendees, who are the ones who make all of this meaningful; of course, to all the volunteers who help us ensure everything goes well during the event days; and to many friends who gave us advice and helped us improve.

Why?

As I mentioned before, I cannot dedicate the time it deserves, and above all, I don’t have the strength and motivation necessary to continue with the project with the dedication it requires. An event of this caliber needs you to give your best to succeed, and with each passing edition, it has become increasingly demanding—and it will become even more so, because I am convinced that the next edition will be even better and bigger.

What now?

Well, now it’s time to rest and spend time with my family and my cats, on my work, and on myself. It is necessary to take one or two steps back to regain strength and be able to keep moving forward, and this is one of those moments.

I am sure the conference will be a complete success in future editions, but I will be watching that from a different position.
