A couple of months ago, I mentioned that “something was moving” in Vigo , that developer communities, and technical ones in general, were starting to appear and grow.
Well, this is moving to the next level: from the mundane need to coordinate spaces and dates for the meetups of the different groups, something more has emerged, something that personally excites me a lot, because it’s always nice to see something grow, an idea, but even more so if you are a participant, even in a small way.
VigoTech Alliance has been born, a group of groups, or a meta-group, whose main purpose is to combine the strength of each of the groups that form it: Agile Vigo, Codesign Project, GDG Vigo, JoomlaVigo, JavascriptVigo, PHPVigo, PythonVigo, SysAdminGalicia, VigoJUG and last but not least VigoLabs.
This combined strength of knowledge from each group manifests, for example, in the promotion of the dates of the other groups, increasing everyone’s visibility and giving attendees of each meeting the chance to continue learning in other groups as well.
As I mentioned in the previous post it’s about showing the world (yes, I know it sounds pretentious, but let me dream a little ;) ) what is being done in Vigo and its surroundings, because very cool and powerful things are being done that have little to envy compared to what’s done in other parts of the world (and I’m not looking at anyone, cough, cough, Silicon Valley).
I think one day I’ll write a post listing the technological “things” being done in Vigo and its surroundings which, unfortunately, get much less exposure than if they were done on the other side of the Atlantic, but that’s a topic for another day…
As I said at the beginning, it’s exciting to contribute a small grain of sand to a project or an idea you believe in; that’s why, alongside Pedro Figueras, we have contributed the identity for VigoTech Alliance, which you can check out at https://github.com/VigoTech/Design-elements. I recommend reading the reasoning behind how the idea was built at https://github.com/VigoTech/Design-elements/blob/master/README.md

Finally, I want to thank all the people who make up each of the groups, who contribute their time with no other interest than making the community in Vigo grow.
